The Difference Between Terpenes and Terpenoids
A terpene is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon based on combinations of the isoprene unit. Terpenoids are compounds related to terpenes, which may include some oxygen functionality or some rearrangement, however, the two terms are often used interchangeably.
The difference between terpenes and terpenoids is that terpenes are hydrocarbons; whereas, terpenoids have been denatured by oxidation (drying and curing the flowers). The words terpene and terpenoid are increasingly used interchangeably, although they do have slightly different meanings.
